If You Can Get Over Your Ex, You Can Get Over Soda
*Bringing this in from my previous blog
Your ex and soda are basically the same thing, and you should quit both. To illustrate this, please refer to Table 1.
Table 1. Similarities of Your Ex and Soda
Sweet but harmful
Addicting
You see them everywhere
Withdrawals are painful and cause weight loss
You become prettier once you leave them
Empty (soul and calories for your ex and soda, respectively)
Slightest contact may trigger a relapse
The aforementioned table explains why not unlike a relationship gone bad, soda only adds unnecessary stress to your health and your life would be much, much better without it. Sure, you can be friends again down the road, but not after taking time off to break the attachment to experience the benefits of living soda (and ex) – free. Save your time and calories for someone and something that’s worth it.
It’s hard to let go especially if it holds emotional value, comforts you when you’re not feeling your best self, and especially if it is incorporated into your daily routine. The good news though is that no matter how attached you are to this thing, it is possible to live without it. Here are a few tried and tested tips on how to go about that:
a. Slowly but Surely – Let go in phases. You may definitely go cold turkey but it’s okay to be kind to yourself and taper off little by little. Lessen your soda intake one portion at a time. Bring “a soda with each meal” to “a soda with every other meal” and then work your way from there.
b. Get Over the Honeymoon Phase – Sometimes we view soda (or a really good cupcake) as such a novelty. Just keep in mind that it will always be there and we don’t always have to grab the chance to have it. Pa-miss ka naman minsan.
c. Rebound – There are so many options out there to substitute soda with – and I don’t mean those diet/artificially sweetened versions. I personally like making my own soda (without a SodaStream, that is) by squeezing half a lemon into a glass of sparkling water. You’d be surprised by how much more refreshing it is, and it doesn’t even have a fraction of the sugar that soda contains. Don’t knock it ‘til you try it!
d. Take Everything in Stride – Stressing out too much about things can make us feel like giving up the good fight only to come crawling back to the old ways. Chin up and always remember why you started. Chant: “Glowing skin, glowing skin, glowing skin”
e. Seek Therapy –Sometimes something that appears to be so simple and logical can be difficult to achieve so don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are doctors and licensed nutritionists who are trained to help you through this ordeal.
f. Enjoy Being Single – Take this opportunity to learn more about yourself and what you actually like in food. Have fun seeing what’s out there and figuring out what really works with your lifestyle.
You’ve already promised yourself that 2020 is the year you will make your dreams come true (and finally get those abs) There is only space in your busy schedule for things that bring you closer to your goals. Anything getting in the way will have to be left in 2019. Good luck!
